Respiro

A year of air, made flesh ↓

▌ RESPIRO№ 016

How it works

Breathe a place

Respiro reads the last year of air where you are — the particulates, the nitrogen, the ozone — and paints it as a single figure. Clean air stays whole; foul air bruises and screams.

The air is never stored — only its weight becomes the figure. The same place returns the same plate, and the same breath of sound.

Respiro

Share where you stand and Respiro reads the last three hundred and sixty-five days of air for that exact spot — the particulates, the nitrogen, the ozone, the days it turned foul. None of it is composed by hand. The year is the only author.

It sets the reading down as a single caged figure of raw flesh: warm and nearly whole where the air was clean, bruised into greys and sick greens and dragged downward, torn open, where it was not. The same numbers score a slow drone you can hear — the year, breathing. No two places make the same plate.

The figure it presses often recalls mid-century figuration — the caged body, the smeared mouth, the meat-tone palette. That likeness is emergent, not chosen. Breath, blur and flesh-tones converge on familiar territory once a year of foul air is let loose on a body, and the maths walks into it unprompted. The resemblance is a property of the calculation, not a style pulled on over it — the year paints, and it happens to paint in a language we already know how to read.
