Canto V

Input.
A poem — that is all. The default is Dante, Inferno V — Paolo and Francesca — but any verse of your own can replace it. No dials, no palette, no adjustments: the text alone.

Transformation.
The poem is hashed — every character fed into a function that returns a complex constant, an exponent, a view, and a color. From those numbers a generalized Julia set precipitates. Same verse, same image; change a comma, and the figure shifts. A caption records the mathematics on the plate — z ← z² + c, the value of c, the hash — and a small tally counts what can be counted about the source: lines, words, characters. Download captures it as PNG.

Note.
Dante's Canto V opens with a book that transformed its readers — Galeotto fu 'l libro e chi lo scrisse. Here the transformation runs the other way: not the reader changed by the text, but the text changed by being refused as text. Every character is fed into a hash that becomes a complex constant, an exponent, a view, and a color, from which a Julia set precipitates. Change a comma and the figure shifts. What comes out is a poem the hash keeps to the letter and refuses to read.
